In 2004, John at the urging of his youngest son "to teach him about photography", picked up a camera and started where he left off some 20 years ago.

With a combination of traditional film and modern digital techniques, John photographs the natural world around him.

John started out in photography as his father had, doing black and white work for his high school newspaper and yearbooks. Taking pictures, developing the film and printing photographs in the darkroom. John attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill., and learned of Ansell Adams, Minor White and the Zone System for visualizing and creating photographs. Then the Vietnam War came along and John put down the camera.

With his training in traditional chemical photography, John started teaching his son, David, the traditional wet method of doing photographs. Always interested in investigating new techniques, John and David started looking at digital photography.

Applying the lessons learned from traditional photography, John and David work with both film and digital photography.

Although the picture may be taken with a film camera or digital camera the photograph is printed on light sensitive paper and processed in the traditional wet chemical process.

John is a member of the Lakeland gallery, Arts On the Park (AOP), submits photographs for juried shows and has won several awards for his works.

John has exhibited his photographs in the lobbies of the Tampa City Center and the Rivergate Tower in downtown Tampa, Florida.
